Below those are some of the terms and phrases we at My Home Building Help routinely use. Enjoy!
Common BUILDER and SUBCONTRACTOR Terms and Phrases
"This is acceptable building practice" - I don't know how it should be done or just don't want to do it the right way, but the owner doesn't know any better anyway.
"This is built to code" - To build it any worse would be against the law.
"This design prevents me from doing this right" - I really should have spent more time with the architect.
"They sent the wrong color" - I should have gone out to the truck and checked the spec sheet instead of ordering the appliances from memeory.
"You know, I think this color looks better" - (This is related to the above statement) This is my fault and if you don't accept this color, I have to spend a bundle on shipping the appliances back.
"You can't see it from where I live" - This is what the builder tells the subcontractor when they see something wrong that can be covered up before the owner gets there.
"Quality" - Anything the builder wants it to be. It's subjective.
"We can't get the material in till Monday" - Eventhough the material is in my garage, I am leaving early today to go fishing with my buddies at the beach.
"We didn't show up because it was supposed to rain" - (This is related to the above statement) The fish were really biting and we decided to stay at the beach through Monday!
