Bill Klotz began working in the residential construction industry while attending school at N.C. State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation of Natural Resources. He has worked for subcontractors, builders, and engineering firms. He began his career working for a small builder in Pennsylvania. There he learned about work in the field, running a small business, and how to deal with subcontractors. When the opportunity presented itself, Klotz returned to the Raleigh market to work for one of the largest builders in the country. He worked for large builders for over four years here in the Triangle. After accepting a position with Advanced Energy, a construction consulting firm on N.C. State's campus, he began helping non-profit builders and developers improve quality. It was there he realized his true passion, not building large-volume houses, but building true homes in a responsible manner. While still at Advanced Energy, Klotz began helping builders across the country diagnose problem houses and in some cases entire subdivisions. These builders were experiencing comfort, energy use, mold, or rot issues that in some cases were prompting lawsuits. After identifying the problem with the materials, details, or workmanship, Klotz would then help the builder implement quality initiatives in the construction process that would guarantee that the problem would not occur again. The result of all of Klotz's experiences is My Home Building Help's construction process. With our help, even inexperienced men and women can build a home better than most "professional" builders and have instant equity.
Klotz is a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina. He has consulted and taught classes for some of the largest builders and manufacturers in the nation. He has also presented at several national conferences. A Master Certified Contractor, Klotz is also a Certified Home Energy Rater, and a Level I Thermographer. He was on the committee that formed the NC Green Builder Task Force and is the credited co-editor of "Principles of Building Science".
In his free time, Klotz is a board member of the N.C. State Varsity Club and in 2006 was appointed to the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending every free moment with his wife, Melanie, and two German Shorthaired Pointers, Jager and Cash.
